Cheers Geoff, that's interesting.

As you will remember from previous discussions, quite different from the layout of mine.

I'm pretty sure that mine was built by Cresta Marine (later becoming Coral Marine) In certian light, It was still possible to see where "Cresta Sports Fisherman" had been written above the side windows.

Stugsy's is almost identical to mine apart from the extended wheelhouse.

Was yours actually built by Lochin?

I think Harold's has a similar layout to yours - Harold?

Cheers

Chas

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for that. It's nice to know that there are still original Lochins around. I know the previous owner had it from almost new, and was incredibly fastidious. My interior is back to original layout, and the only think I changed is the engine cover in the wheelhouse. I made a one piece moulding to get better access to the engine. (I 've only got a single engine). Once it is all finished I will post some photos.

Cheers

Harold

Hi Guys

Blue Swell was factory built ,one of the last to be built at Rye i believe, and has the build plate by the helm .
Sister ship is Salochin also a twin engined extended wheelhouse version.

The only addition i have made to my interior is an in fill for the foward V berths making a double across the boat which works well.

Harold you are correct in saying the previous owner was very fastidious and with  little use in there ownership. I have had both engine box frames rebuilt as rotting timber but that has been all structurally.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

I remember Salochin being up for sale in 2004 when I bought mine. Salochin was out of my price range.

A year later when I was contemplating fitting spray deflector rails she was in Lochin's yard undergoing a mega re-fit including a pair of Perkins Sabre M300TIs. I went there to see how they were fitted and ordered a pair.

She's a lovely boat!

Cheers

Chas

Hi Geoff and Chas,

Geoff, unfortunately the last owner of my Lochin took the builders plate away which was fitted under the port side deck, against the main bulkhead. I would like to know what your build # is and what the building plate says.

Chas, I detailed Salochin in 1995 for Simon when she was for sale. She still had her originally fitted 212 Sabres. From what I remember, the boat was in absolute mint condition.

Did you make that photo of Salochin in Simons yard?

Cheers

Harold

Hi Harold

Salochin still had the original engines when she was up for sale in 2004. I believe that the owner decided not to sell her but spent mega bucks on a re-fit including new engines.

Yes, the fromt on photo was taken by my missus in Lochin's yard while I was talking to Roger about the spray deflector rails.

The other photo was on the web when she was for sale.

Here are another couple of boats that seem to be out of the same stable.

The first is moored in Chichester Harbour - no idea who owns it and the other was up for sale some time ago and the photo was also on the web.

Cheers and all the best

Chas

Hi Harold and Chas

My hull number has been scratched on the starboard corner of the stern as well but iwill take a photo of the plate and post on here for you.

It seems that Blue Swell is quite unique having two windows rather than the one piece side windows.

The photo of 2nd Lochin i think was for sale in Plymouth soon after purchased mine. It has i think twin 200hp 4 cylinder Mermaids.

Salochin is a super boat , i also viewed at Newhaven in 2004 but couldnt afford and yes it did have the Sabre's. The only draw back i felt was the size of the engine boxes at that time as i wanted to mainly use for fishing where a Blue Swell's boxes are approx 10 inches off the deck max.

Im sure the owner is a forum member perhaps he would like too have some input.

  Regards Geoff................

Hi Geoff

Here is another one that was up for sale in 2004. It was fitted with a big single, 420 or 450 HP.

At that time there were four extended wheelhouse varients for sale - mine, Salochin, this one and another early twin engined one that was far from original and not to my liking.

A little while ago I saw it up for sale again after apparently it had been sabotaged and sunk then it seemed to disappear overninght. Maybe either sold very quickly or was withdrawn. Anyone else know any more?

Cheers

Chas

Hi Pirate and welcome to the forum.

There are a couple "specials" on the thread "Unusual Lochins"

Yours sounds very interesting indeed, any chance of posting a few photos?

It's quite likely that other users of this forum may be able to throw more light on it, I'm sure we'd all like to see it.

Cheers

Chas

Hi Pirate,

Welcome to the forum. The Lochin you have was built by Sea Cruisers of Rye. They built less than 1/2 dozen. If you go to unusual Lochins there is a photo I posted from your boat or possibly a sister ship. It's good to hear that you have kept her as original as possible. Is there a builders plate inside at all? I got to know Frank Nichols personally, after my father went to see him in 1978 about buying one of his boats. We imported a 33 extended wheelhouse 4 years ago to Australia and have only just finished her after a total rebuild.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards

Harold

Hi Harold

I was hoping you would show up on this one because once I saw the photos that Pirate posted, I could see it was very similar to the one you posted on the thread "unusual Lochins".

I've also seen an Aquabell 27 that looked very similar.

Hi Pirate

You really do need to look at that thread.

Yours looks good, it would be nice to see pictures of inside.

Cheers

Chas

Hi Pirate,

Just been looking at your photos of before and after. You are now a member of the Royal Society for the Protection (and restoration) of Old Lochins. She looks fantastic! and very cosy inside. A real home away from home. Of course you have much more space inside than we have. What a beautiful job. Where do you use her and what engine are you running?

Regards

Harold

Hi, Harold, Thanks for you comments, When i first seen hes i had to have her, its a very long story....... comorant is running on a perkins HT6 6354... not much room for a new engine, i have spent a lot of time and money on her but i wouldnt change a thing........ i keep on top of work on her...... at the moment i am puting on a new wheel house..... and keeping it just the same, it took me a long time to find some one write for the job, but i did the end, and its looking really good.

Hi All,
I haven't been on the forum for ages...! I am sorry for that.
I see a lot of new discussions and members, good!
From the Netherlands I reply on the post from Chas. I saw this photo and I believe I have bought this Lochin last year from Sleeuwijk yachting. The previous owner completely refitted this boat in 2007 and spent a huge amount of money and all well documented. See attached the new look. I posted this before so maybe you recognise it.
Regards, Wouter
